True Food®Vitality Origin Story

True Food®Vitality Origin Story

Lynsey Vaughan - Higher Nature Nutritional Therapist - Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr)

Our new True Food® Vitality multis are the result of over two years hard work and careful attention to detail to bring you the UK’s most natural and pure real food multivitamins available.

Our in-house nutritionist Lynsey explains the story behind our new ground-breaking True Food® Vitality for women:

Our True Food® multis are next-generation natural supplements which redefine what “food-state” means by delivering vitamins and minerals directly from real foods. These True Food® nutrients are different from other supplements in that they are biochemically identical to those found in the real foods they are sourced from, harnessing nature’s innate wisdom to work in perfect harmony with your body.

With zero additives, you can feel good knowing every capsule is simply 100% whole food nutrients, dosed at effective levels to help you bridge nutrient gaps from modern lifestyles and fuel your daily vitality.

Real food benefits

What we consume provides the resources our body needs to fuel every single process and a food-first approach lays the foundations for good health because real foods contain many other health-promoting compounds in addition to essential nutrients

Whole foods include naturally occurring bioactive compounds like polyphenols, antioxidants, amino acids, glycoproteins, enzymatic cofactors and many more. These help our bodies process nutrients or offer additional biochemical benefits such as antioxidant protection from reactive oxygen species which damage cells and fuel inflammation.

Different plants provide different compounds, which is why we are always recommending variety. A balanced and varied nutrient-dense diet rich in whole foods is associated with myriad positive health outcomes, and a reduced risk of a variety of illnesses and disease.

Modern nutrient gaps

However, we should acknowledge the reality that there can be many barriers to following this recommended dietary pattern, making a high-quality natural multi a smart choice for some individuals to help them get the essential micronutrients they need from time to time to help nourish vitality and support their health goals.

People who may struggle to get all their micronutrients from foods can include:

  • Anyone following restrictive dietary patterns- be that vegetarian, vegan, cutting out certain food groups or “dieting” more generally with the goal of weight loss goals

  • Anyone having undergone weight loss surgery

  • Anyone taking weight loss medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Orlistat or Mounjaro

  • Anyone with sensory issues who can’t tolerate certain tastes and textures

  • Anyone dealing with chronic health conditions, particularly those affecting appetite or digestive function

  • Anyone dealing with a bout of illness

  • Anyone with a hectic schedule struggling to prioritise a balanced, whole foods diet

  • Anyone with high intakes of ultra processed foods

  • Anyone dealing with mental health issues and challenges to executive function

  • Anyone dealing with reduced appetite due to stress or grief

  • Anyone with reduced appetite due to natural process of aging

Evidence consistently shows most people are not following public health dietary guidelines for a balanced and varied diet rich in whole foods, making it challenging to meet essential nutrient requirements.

A recent study found that just 0.1% of the UK population are meeting the recommendations provided by the national Eatwell Guide. In 2022 less than 33% of adults ate 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

The scientific evidence also shows that this “5 a day” public health campaign recommendation should really be more like 7-10 to truly optimise health. However, with so few people managing 5, experts are worried increasing this recommendation will make it feel even less achievable for many.

In December 2023 the news reported that the number of people in England and Wales admitted to hospital with nutrient deficiencies had tripled in 10 years.

It’s important to note that these are cases where overt deficiency has led to significant enough health consequences for people to be admitted to hospital. This data does not capture the fuller picture of suboptimal levels of essential nutrients which are much more common.

The high prevalence of suboptimal nutrient status was also highlighted in a 2023 study looking at the health of 1,729 expecting mothers from high-income countries, including the UK, New Zealand and Singapore. Researchers found that 90 per cent were lacking key nutrients necessary for healthy pregnancies and the wellbeing of unborn infants.

It’s this context of nutrient gaps which makes a high-quality, 100% natural multi a smart choice to supplement modern busy lifestyles.

The True Food® difference

As someone who truly believes in the power of nature for healing, I wanted to formulate a multi that was as close to real food as it's possible to be, ensuring the richness of synergistic compounds from real foods as much as possible, in addition to providing helpful levels of essential vitamins and minerals.

Transparency is incredibly important to me and when reviewing what else was available I was disappointed by what I found in the natural supplement space.

Brands often use misleading language to imply their products are entirely naturally sourced when they are often adding synthetic vitamins and minerals to tiny amounts of food pastes and yeasts or bacteria to “grow the nutrient in and form a “food-like complex. This is not the same as the naturally biochemically identical nutrients you get directly from real foods

Some brands are using some genuinely naturally sourced vitamins and minerals but are not doing so for the whole formula (so they mix some synthetic sources with some natural sources), or they were also using excipients such as bulking agents, binders, or flow agents (to get ingredients through machinery).

Some brands claim they are “free from fillers” when what they mean is they are free from synthetic fillers. They are still using excipients, just more natural options such as brown rice powder or alfalfa. These fillers themselves aren’t necessarily a problem, it’s the misleading messaging which is.

100% Natural, pure and transparent

Every vitamin and mineral in our True Food® Vitality is sourced from completely natural ingredients. The nutrients are derived directly from real whole foods (and one from filtered seawater) and this transparency is made clear on the label so you can see what real ingredient every single nutrient is sourced from, and that there are no additional ingredients whatsoever, beyond the capsule. The capsule is for convenience- if you prefer you can even empty the contents into cold liquids or sprinkle over foods.

This means you can choose to just take one-a-day and not have to top up with additional vitamin D unlike many other multis.

The AstraGin®Advantage

AstraGin® is a patented blend of potent astragalus and panax notoginseng, scientifically backed by 16 studies.

AstraGin® works synergistically alongside the natural nutrients to enhance absorption, help maintain a healthy gut, nourish the gut-based immune system, and help friendly bacteria flourish.

These four mechanisms all contribute to supporting health and vitality in a comprehensive and multi-faceted way to help you feel your best.

We included AstraGin® as it not only supports the absorption of the nutrients in the multi, but has also been shown to also improve absorption of nutrients in other foods you're eating, including omega 3 fatty acids which typical diets are often low in.

This synergy means our all-natural multi offers superior therapeutic benefits and value beyond the supplement itself. Harnessing nature’s intelligence to work in perfect harmony with your body.

AstraGin® has been demonstrated through 16 vitro, in vivo, and human studies to:

  • Enhance absorption of a broad spectrum of nutrients, such as amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and phyto-compounds by up-regulating their transporter proteins.

  • Restore gut wall integrity by reducing gut inflammation and increasing intestinal epithelial cell and tight junction regeneration.

  • Promote microbiota homeostasis by restoring gut wall integrity.

  • Support immunity through increased immune cell activation and enhanced microbiota-immune system communication.
